Taste of Wicklow returns for its seventh year in the stunning Abbey Grounds, Wicklow Town on the 28th- 30th June. This family-friendly event includes a broad range of activities tailored to suit all ages. The programme will feature a collection of artisan food and craft stalls, food demonstrations, workshops, live music, and dance performances. Activities such as face painting, circus shows, and walk-about entertainers will be on hand to provide endless entertainment.
This festival gives a great opportunity for local food producers to showcase their products and network within the Irish Food industry, which is of major importance for Co. Wicklow at the moment. In 2018 Wicklow Co. Council inducted a food strategy for the county to use as a tool that can help re-invent Wicklow as it is perceived by those that live there and the domestic and international visitor. The main goals of the Wicklow Food Strategy are:
- To tell the Wicklow food story.
- To develop a food activity calendar (business to consumer).
- To increase food stakeholder networking (business to business).
- Get local food to local consumers.
- To provide appropriate business supports.
With the implementation of this Food Strategy along with events such Taste of Wicklow there is no doubt that the local food industry is flourishing and will continue to grow in years to come.
